Cialis used in erectile dysfunction (ED)

ED is a medical condition where men may experience trouble having or maintaining an erection to have sex. There are several causes of ED, including:

  • illness

  • emotional factors, such as anxiety, stress, or depression

  • conditions that are likely to affect the nerves or blood, including diabetes or high cholesterol

Sometimes ED can be treated by simply addressing the reason, such as treating an illness or anxiety. In other cases, your body may need medication such as Cialis that can help treat ED.

Cialis used in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)

treatment option for benign prostatic hyperplasia symptoms. BPH is a medical condition that usually occurs in men as they grow old. It happens when an individual’s prostate gland gradually increases in size but is not cancerous. As the prostate gland enlarges, it starts to push on the bladder. So eventually, you may have symptoms of BPH, including:

  • straining to urinate

  • need to urinate often, especially during the night

  • being unable to urinate

  • producing a weak stream of urine

  • feeling that your bladder did not empty after urinating

Off-label use for Cialis

Along with treating ED and BPH, Cialis can also be used for off-label treatment for other purposes.

Cialis for ureteral stones

Cialis is not an FDA-approved drug for ureteral stones treatment. However, people buy Cialis online for this off-label purpose. It shows individuals who took Cialis are more likely to pass their stones than people who took any other drug for ureteral stones.

Ureteral stones usually begin as kidney stones and later move into the ureter (the tube from which the urine travels from the kidney to the bladder). Kidney stones are minerals that have formed into a stone inside a kidney. Cialis can function to treat ureteral stones by calming the ureter muscles. This drug makes the ureter wider to help you pass the stones faster.

Cialis Form and Strength

Cialis is available as a tablet that is meant for you to swallow. It comes in four strengths: 20 mg, 10 mg, 5 mg, and 2.5 mg. Depending on your situation and what medical condition Cialis is treating, you are prescribed to take the drug before sexual intercourse or once a day.

Cialis consists of tadalafil as an active ingredient that belongs to a group of drugs known as phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. In erectile dysfunction (ED), Cialis relaxes the blood vessels passing through the penis so that more blood can flow into that part of the body. For BPH symptoms, this drug relaxes muscles in the bladder, helping you to urinate more easily.

Important Information

You are not supposed to take Cialis if you take a nitrate drug for heart problems or chest pain. Nitrate medicines may include isosorbide dinitrate, nitroglycerin, isosorbide mononitrate, “papers,” and some recreational drugs. Taking Cialis (tadalafil) with a nitrate drug can result in a sudden and severe decrease in blood pressure.

Some medications can cause undesirable or dangerous effects when an individual uses them with Cialis. Tell your healthcare professional (doctor and pharmacist) about all the medicines you are using currently, especially riociguat (Adempas).

You need to seek instant medical help or contact your health expert if your erection is painful or lasts for more than four hours. Priapism (a prolonged erection) can damage the penis so that it can never be treated. Take immediate medical help if you have chest pain, nausea, or dizziness during sex.

Stop taking this drug and get instant medical help if you experience sudden vision loss. Sudden vision loss has been reported in a small number of individuals taking medicines such as tadalafil (Viagra or other drugs). Most of such people already had specific eye problems or high cholesterol, coronary artery disease, diabetes, a history of smoking, or are older adults of over 50 years or more. One can not say the medicine is the actual cause of vision loss.

What to do before taking Cialis?

To ensure this drug is safe and secure for you, tell your healthcare professional about your medical history, especially if you have ever had:

  • a heart attack or stroke;

  • heart rhythm problems or any other heart disease;

  • pulmonary hypertension (unless you are using tadalafil for this);

  • high or low blood pressure, angina (or chest pain);

  • liver or kidney disease (if you are on dialysis);

  • a condition called pulmonary veno-occlusive condition (narrowing of the veins carrying the blood from the lungs to the heart);

  • a bleeding disorder; a blood cell disorder, including multiple myeloma, sickle cell anemia, or leukemia;

  • blurred vision, vision loss, or retinitis pigmentosa (inherited eye condition);

  • stomach ulcer;

  • health problems that make sexual intercourse unsafe; or

  • Peyronie’s disease (physical deformity of the penis), or an erection that lasts for an extended period of more than four hours
